REALLY GAY

Fairly short album consisting of 15 showtunes sung by the aging Stephin Merritt and Claudia Gonson, AKA the best people ever. As always, the link is promotional only, and I'm not just saying this because Merge Records has a history of taking down links, no siree.

Fin - Fated by Will & Iron (320)

Year: 2012
Genre: Black Metal
Country: USA

I noticed this album on a blog the other day. The cover really made it stand out. I was expecting a Hip-Hop album from the cover, yet when I started to listen I realized it was Black Metal. The album began seemingly hopeful. But as soon as the first song gained momentum, (you know like with drums) I felt like the producer fell asleep while mixing this. Also, whenever this band attempts to stray away from blast beats and tremolo picking, all I hear are these immense walls of sound. (After an hour of pondering, I'm pretty sure that it's the guitar player trying to solo, but just hitting every string at the same time.) My final comment about this is that every so often the song will increase its volume two fold. Each time this happened I got frightened so much I didn't continue my listen for a few hours.
>implying Black Metal musicians should ever use their ride cymbals.
AND WHY THE FUCK IS THERE NO GUNS IN THIS ALBUM I SAW GUNS ON THE FRONT COVER BUT HE NEVER SINGS ABOUT GUNS.
Strong 7 to light 8 on this none the less.

Alvin Lucier - I Am Sitting in a Room (320)

Year: 1981
Genre: Tape Music/Electroacoustic
Country: United States
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?x6m6tlu5eownsqn

"About five years ago, I went to the composer Alvin Lucier’s concert. There was no one in the audience besides the organizer and some musicians involved (including me.) The concert was five hours (still a shortened version of the composition), and half the piece was with silences. Even in the part which some sounds were involved, came from a wide array of electronic tapes, with the man saying one word in every eight minutes. It was a hard experience. No one may want to come to such a concert.” ~Taku Sugimoto

I honestly had no idea that they had musicians in China. This is big news to me. I'm going to leave my house now for the first time in five weeks to admire the world with my new found knowledge. Fuck you Internet.

Getatchew Mekuria, The Ex and Guests - Moa Anbessa (VBR)

Genre: Free Jazz/Punk Rock
Country: Ethopia, Netherlands
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ai61gk8x0qt6iy8
Tracklist:
1. Ethiopia Hagere
2. Sethed Seketelat
3. Eywat Setenafegagn
4. Che Bclew Shellela
5. Aynamaye Nesh
6. Aymotche Terabu/Shemonmwanaye
7. Musicawi Silt
8. Tezeta
9. Almaz Yeharerwa
10. Tezalegn Yetentu
11. Aha Begena
You've probably cannot pronounce any of these song titles but don't worry, neither can we. The songs on this basically sound like what the names look like. You have punk rock guitars and then Getatchew comes in like "BEBEBEBEBEEBBOOOOWEBWOBSBIYUYHOOOO". This is the kind of shit that makes stupid punk rockers become the jazz guy. When people ask what Jazz you listen to, you no longer need to reply  with "Davis, Coltrane, the list goes on...". Now you can be all "I listen to obscure Ethiopian Jazz recordings featuring Dutch Punk musicians. And worry about this ruining your hipster cred, i found this by accidentally clicking on an ad on 7chan.

Falls of Rauros - Hail Wind and Hewn Oak (192)

Year: 2008
Genre: Black/Folk Metal
Country: USA
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?wal4fn9xxquql62
Tracklist:
1. The Sun Tonight Has Set
2. The Fire We Fathered
3. Hail Wind and Hewn Oak
4. Fury In Our Blood, Thunder In Our Hearts
5. Of Stone and the Stars in the Sky
6. In Waves of Golden Light
7. To Witness Existence
8. And Never Shall There Be
Falls of Rauros describes their sound as "North Appalachian Heathen Black Folk Metal". What a load of pretentious fucking wankery. The pretension of this band increases with the fact that only two of their four band members are named (Acrimonious Vagabond and Abhorrent Wayfarer). Setting aside that they are from Maine, their music still sounds like legitimate Black Metal. (I guess Maine is to the U.S. as Norway is to Europe.) I do suggest you check this out if you are a fan of very atmospheric Metal acts like Agalloch.

Motherhead Bug - Zambodia (192)

Year: 1993
Genre: Experimental Jazz
Country: USA
Link:http://www.mediafire.com/?zx8dc7friovjidy
Tracklist:
1. My Sweet Milstar
2. Tiny Bones
3. Demon Erection
4. Pinola
5. Bleating Heart Incident
6. Zambodia
7. Leader=Dealer
8. Shabooda
9. The Sauce Carousel
10. Blister
11. Off With Their Little Heads!
This happens to be one of my all time favorite albums and there's no questions why. You got a mother fucking housefly smoking a hookah. When you listen to this, you're going to be like "Shit, I wish I was a hookah smokin' house fly". Your primal urges to transform into one of the many species that belong to the scientific classification heteroptera will undeniable. This album is also out of print, so you know it's good.

The Space Cossacks - Tsar Wars (192)

Year: 2000
Genre: Surf
Country: USA
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?yymv1qz320e1c5k
Tracklist:
1. Exolumia
2. Space Race
3. The Apes of Wrath
4. Tsunami Tsurprise
5. Escape From Gulag 17
6. Sea of Tranquility
7. The Defector
8. The Crusher
9. Cossack Rocket Patrol
10. The Jewel of Duende
11. Departure
12. Beyond the Third Star
13. Tsar Wars
14. Fiesta del Cossacapulco!
15. Tradewinds
Not much backround to talk about with these guys. They are a surf rock group who fuses elements of space rock into their work. This album reminds me of taking a shit on the Deathstar while reading a magazine about  summer in Malibu. It's that good.

A Place to Bury Strangers - Exploding Head (320)

Year: 2009
Genre: Shoegaze
Tracklist:
1. It Is Nothing
2. In Your Heart
3. Lost Feeling
4. Deadbeat
5. Keep Sliding Away
6. Ego Death
7. Smile When You Smile
8. Everything Always Goes Wrong
9. Exploding Head
10. I Lived My Life to Stand in the Shadow of Your Heart
A Place to Bury Strangers is Brooklyn based post-punk/shoegaze trio. Exploding Head is their seminal album. It's sound throws catchy, 80's inspired post-punk tunes at modern production. When I say modern I mean throwing fucking reverb on the entire mix and hoping it sounds good. In most cases they seem to pull this off quite well by keeping their songs enjoyable, yet slathered in noises.
